Canterbury Youth FC 1
Vs
Faversham Strike Force FC 4
Three was the magic number for Faversham Strike Force Under 13’s as three goals from Liam Sparks helped them to a third win over Canterbury Youth this season and secure a third successive league cup semi final.
Faversham began the tie the brighter with Liam King and Thomas Holmes both going close and it was King who eventually opened the scoring finishing a Liam Sparks through ball.
Faversham created several good chances with Jimmy Wallace firing over when through and the visitors were made to pay when Ryan Thomas saved brilliantly only to see the hosts draw level from the rebound.
Within minutes Strike Force regained the lead when Liam Sparks controlled a Wallace through ball to power the ball home.
The second half continued in the same manner with Sparks securing the tie with two cool finishes to complete his hat-trick. The Strike Force defence showed maturity and restricted Canterbury to little attacking opportunities.
Faversham Strike Force FC, Manager and Coach Lee Suter congratulated the team by saying ‘The group showed desire and a fantastic work ethic. All of the boys put in a shift with some great passing and energy’.
Man of the match was Liam Sparks.

Faversham Strike Force Under 13’s welcomed their neighbours Faversham Town Juniors FC in the Merv Willis Memorial Cup in what was the first competitive match between the sides for five seasons.
The first half saw very few clear cut chances which was mainly due to the hard work and resilience of the visiting defence and when Strike Force did create a chance, Liam King rounded the keeper only to see his goal bound effort brilliant headed off the line.
With the visitors looking dangerous on the break Strike Force were kept on their toes but it was King’s mazy run which saw him fire the home team in front early in the second half.
Town kept fighting with some brave defending but King soon made it two after finishing well from a tight angel. The industrious Liam Sparks then grabbed a goal when he saw his original shot blocked and he reacted to smash the ball home.
Daniel Sadler saw a header cleared off the line but Strike Force did make it four late on when Thomas Holmes sent over a lofted cross which was deflected in and saw the home side secure a quarter final tie with Canterbury Youth FC.
Faversham Strike Force FC, Manager and Coach Lee Suter praised both teams by saying “It is great to see grassroots football in the Town doing so well. The match was played and supported in a respectful manner and both teams should be proud of the hard work and sprit showed by all involved’.
Man of the match was Ben Richards.
In one of footballs ironic twists Faversham Strike Force Under 13’s travelled to Margate knowing a win was enough to secure the league title a year on from a heartbreaking defeat which saw the hosts pip Faversham to the league in last season’s fixture.
A muddy pitch did not thwart both teams from displaying passion and skill in a fair manner but the conditions prevented the teams from creating any clear cut opportunities.
Faversham’s, Ashley Bolton saw a header flash across goal while a Margate corner caused mayhem in the Faversham box with legs and bodies put in the line of fire before the excellent Daniel Sadler poked the ball to safety.
Both teams pushed forward in the closing minutes with Liam King seeing a shot well saved while the hosts saw a half volley trickle passed the post.
With players tiring in the boggy conditions the match finished as the teams had started.
Faversham Strike Force FC, Manager and Coach Lee Suter said “It was a tough game in difficult conditions. The team tried to play football and worked extremely hard but the draw was a fair resultâ€.
Man of the match was Daniel Sadler.
